The Creator realized, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper, suitable for him.’
It is very important to get married because marriage is a gift from God, to be in love! It is believed that when a man and woman live together in love and faithfulness, helping and supporting each other, heaven will open to earth, to flourish their life in divine happiness!
When getting married you are committing yourself to a great relationship to spend your lifetime together. The couples make promises in front of God, to stay together ‘for better, for worse; for richer, for poorer; in sickness and in health; to love and to cherish until death do us part’. With marriage, you are no more alone, you have someone to share all your happiness and sorrows, success and failures, and above all someone created for you to understand your feelings. A true Christian holds marriage as a divine bond of love!
During the marriage service at the church, there are readings from the Bible which elucidate the importance of marriage. By getting married, couples are gratifying God’s big plan for creation. “So God created man in his own image” – in the image of God he created him; male and female, and blessed them. God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28.
Marriage is the reflection of the Creator’s unconditional love for us. It is a love that will always remain and will never forsake us. According to Christian belief, marriage only ends with death. Marriage was the first human institution and relationship established by God. Every Christian marriage is considered as a means to glorify God! Marriage offers a safe and secure environment for the nurturing of children.
In another angle of view, marriage is for improvement of self. Marriage is a union that offers opportunities for self-sacrifice that brings individuals closer to God. By making little sacrifices, for preserving the love and relationship, one experiences the unconditional love of Christ, who gave his life for us. By being capable to fulfill God’s intended purpose for marriage, one should motivate the self to develop a Christ-like character. Marriage is thus a realization of the divinity in you!
Marriage is again a call for service! You will serve your partner and children in deep love. It is a spiritual and emotional union that bonds one, more strongly with the roots of family, God, and church. In love, there is nothing to hide or whine. It is a divine relationship that calls you to purify yourself and your partner with the grace of God. As marked in the Bible “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” John 15:12.
