Osho On Marriage

Osho was a spiritual leader who had a progressive take on life; his words are celebrated and often misconstrued around the world. Nevertheless, his words and views are still widely discussed, adopted, and critiqued by many. Though he was not a campaigner for the institution of marriage, he still had some liberal and interesting views about it.

Osho says that marriage is the climax of unconditional and unwavering love between two souls. There is a prodigious longing and desire for love and the awareness and discernment about its existence leads to the epitome of togetherness, which is marriage. Selfless love nourishes the bond between two people and urges them to reach for the most crucial and climactic decision of their lives.

Osho

Osho was not against marriage like many believed him to be. He was only against the legality and other factors that make marriage look like a contract than a spiritual bond. According to him marriage should only be about love and the union of two hearts into one, the social, financial, and political traits of the bond was secondary and insignificant.

He believed that only fools would bother about the legality, marriage should not be a contract where two individuals are forced to be with each other, if at all they love each other. According to him marriage is not an agreement but rather a commitment; commitment to love, care, and support each other. The relationship becomes blissful when love becomes marriage. According to Osho, love sometimes will not come naturally to a relationship, sometimes efforts should be taken by both the partners to let love and happiness flow into their lives.

Sometimes the partners become complacent and cease to take efforts; such aversion, resentment, or hostility, even a little bit, can put off the love and destroy the marriage. He says that people destroy their marriage without them realizing it, and the problems always stem from the lack of awareness and attentiveness to each other.

He also said that the institution of marriage keeps everything going on earth, the religion, the state, the nations, the science, the movies, and the literature, even the evolution depends on marriage to propel further.

The relationship between a husband and wife should not be tainted with jealousy, possessiveness, controlling, abuse, anger, trust issues, and loathing. When the relationship is adulterated with such negativity, the institution of marriage gets reduced to a mere social contract, and an unpleasant relationship. An unfeigned marriage keeps one engaged, content, and happy; it should give a sense of security, safety, and satisfaction to both the parties involved. A good marriage gives you nourishment and enrichment.

In a nutshell, Osho’s views teach us that a happy marriage is not the one where the couple only encounter happiness and luck, a happy marriage is one where the couple faces happiness and sorrows, luck and misfortune, ups and downs together, supporting each other. Osho said: ‘without marriage there will be no misery – and no laughter either. By this statement, he meant that life will be bland, flavorless without a marriage.
