SANGEET Ceremony–Let the Celebrations begin !

An Indian wedding is all about having loads of fun with a whole array of customs and rituals, delectable food, traditional and modernmusic and dance and not to forget the elaborate dressing up for the occasions.

In North Indian weddings, the Sangeet ceremony is the most interesting pre-wedding function, which everyone looks forward to. Right from choosing the right songs to long and rigorous rehearsals – a lot goes into making the event memorable.

While some guests actively participate in this event, others are happy to be enthusiastic spectators. Below are few exciting activities that will help you add an x-factor to the fun quotient in your Sangeet ceremony.

Wedding Night

Let the Elder Members of your Family Begin the Show

Encourage your elders to put up a performance in your function. Get your grandparents to kick-start the Sangeet ceremony with a little jig. It will be more than just a cute item. They will love to express their blessingsthrough their dance. The smiles on all the faces around will not only add shine and laughter to the event, it will also show you care and respectthem.

Add Qawwali to do Something Different

Sangeet ceremony is all about dhoom-dhadaka. Give it a traditional touch adding aqawwali program to it. Qawwalis, which originally began as Sufi offerings at shrines, became a popular genre of music in cinema as well where they were presented more as a musical debate, with two sides presenting the pros and cons of a single ‘topic’. Not only do these forms of ‘poetry’ allow for improvisation, they create a bond because they are essentially group experiences. Organize a session of live qawwali singers and let the celebration set in. Once the mood is set, let the DJ take over and bring your audience to the dance floor.

Create a Video Magic

Two magical ways to add some fun and emotion to your event are:

Family video:Surprise everyone by creating a funny and emotional video of your family that talks about the bride, groom and the best moments spent with them. Play it during the Sangeet ceremony.

Bride and Groom photos and videos: Compose a video with the memorable photographs of the childhoodand/or courtship period of the bride and the groom. Remember to add some beautiful captions and music to this video to make it an enjoyable experience.

Arrange Some Interesting Games for your Guests

Organize fun games such as feeding your partner with your hands tied and the spoon held between teeth; a paper dance for the couple where they have to dance together on a sheet of paper which keeps getting folded and smaller after every round;and other such teasers. Such games liven up the atmosphere and keep the guests engaged and entertained.

Reward your guests with some fun prizes for‘dancing queen’, ‘smart Devar (brother-in-law)’, ‘beautiful bhabhi(sister-in-law), and so on. Such competitions are held in good humour and lead to much merriment.

Windup your Party with a Family Dance

End your event with a fun performance by your whole family. Dance to an energetic popular hit such as‘London thumakda’. You will be surprised at some surprisingly nice moves and shakes put up by your folks.

Your Sangeet ceremony is the first of the big events in a traditional North Indian marriage. Make it an occasion to spread cheer and brightness which will settle down later as a sweet memory in the hearts of all those who attend it; and of course, in your heart too!
